Do hurricanes hit Puerto Vallarta?

The simple answer is yes. The more complicated answer is rarely. Puerto Vallarta only has a couple of ‘direct hits’ from hurricanes on record, however, Pacific hurricanes can greatly impact the weather in Puerto Vallarta. The Bay of Banderas divides the Puerto Vallarta coastline from the Pacific Ocean, so for Puerto Vallarta to be ‘hit’ directly with a hurricane would require many components coming together to drive a storm into the Bay, which just isn’t common. One should never forget that it does not take a ‘direct hit’ to cause damage, injury, or even death. All storms should be taken seriously and monitored. Destruction from hurricanes almost always extends well past the eye of any hurricane. Uncommon direct hits shouldn’t be an excuse not to be prepared.
